The University of Sydney 2nd Trip
Excellent News!
I purchased my Syd Uni library card today and I was able to borrow, The Julius Exclusus of Erasmus by Erasmus Desiderius and I was also able to purchase Pope Julius II: The Warrior Pope by Christine Shaw online and it shall be shipped in 3 weeks. So today at the library I just photocopied 3 chapters out of the book which I found relevant to use at the moment with my major. But when the book arrives I will be able to obtain more information.
However I wasnt able to find, In Praise of Folly by Desiderius Erasmus and the other book, Rome and the Renaissance: the pontificate of Julius II by Julian Klaczko is apparently lost at the library.
Now that I have mostly all my resources I will be able to get my readings and notes done.
I’m just curious to what the other girls are up to and if they are having any trouble as well.
Well, till next time. Bye!

Great News!
I went to the Fisher Library of The University of Sydney today with Jessie (my friend) as I was unable to go with Katie. I was able to photocopy these books that I needed for my Major:
- The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli by William J. Connell
- Princes and Princely Culture: The Patronage of Pope Julius II by Martin Gosman
- The March of Folly: From Troy to Vietnam by Barbara Tuchman
However I also had trouble with the main resource book that I need; Pope Julius II: The Warrior Pope by Christine Shaw as it was in the Reserve part of the library and I would only be able to borrow it for 2 hrs and I couldnt borrow it for an extended loan because it was being used as part of the summer semester. So borrowing was out of place as I also didnt have a library card but I was able to go to the library cards desk where the students enrol and this lady informed me that because I was a HSC student I could buy a library card that expires in 6 months which costs $25, so I was grateful for that.
I will be returning back to the library tomorrow with my cousin and I shall purchase my Syd Uni library card and borrow The Julius Exclusus of Erasmus by Erasmus Desiderius and hopefully I will photocopy the entire book of Christine Shaw’s or order a copy off Amazon for quick shipping. I shall see.
I wasnt able to find the books called:
- In Praise of Folly by Desiderius Erasmus
- Rome and the Renaissance: the pontificate of Julius II by Julian Klaczko
Though since I shall be returning back to Syd Uni I will have one last look there and hopefully I have all my resources.
I’m a bit rocky at the moment about getting all my resources and reading all the material, so stress is starting to overwhelm me, but I’m trying to keep it at a low profile. So hopefully all goes well tomorrow.
Anyways, good night.

State Library Research
Hey
Today was great! I was able to go to Martin Place in the city and find the State Library reference section.
I used the catalogue on the State Library’s website and was only able to find 4 books that they had available that I need for my major work. I photocopied important information from each book which I am going to read tonight and write notes about them. They are:
- Michelangelo and the Pope’s Ceiling by Ross King
- The Prince/Niccolo Machiavelli translated by Harvey C. Mansfield
- Vicars of Christ: the dark side of the Papacy by Peter De Rosa
- Julius II: The Warrior Pope by Christine Shaw
However with the State Library you aren’t allowed to borrow any of the books and the one I mostly needed that has the vital information about Pope Julius II is the one by Christine Shaw. But luckily I will be able to borrow it from Sydney Uni when I go with Katie.
Also with the translated book by Harvey C. Mansfield it was the second edition, not the first edition translated by William J. Connell which is the one that I had intended to use so as a result I wasnt able to find much information in the book as PJII was only mentioned once. So now I am in desperate need to go to Sydney Uni and gather all my resources.
Though I am quite happy with what I have found today and am going to read. I’m wondering what all the other girls are up to and if I am steady at the moment with the pace I have been taking with my major.
It was also interesting to learn how the state library works so that in future years I will be able to use it. I now have a State Library card which I need to use every time I visit the library. The librarians gave me great help and I’m looking forward to going there again.
I’m hoping the progress of my major is going well and that I find all the information that I need to help me.
Till next time, bye!

Hello, sorry about the late update, I’ve been busy like everyone with Christmas and NYE but not to worry I have still been working on my major.
Since I have borrowed the book A History of the Popes by Nicolas Cheetham I have been reading the sections where there is relevant information about PJII and have been writing notes. I have also been researching on the Sydney University Library and State NSW Library websites to see if the resources I need are available at the libraries.
I have also been in contact with Katie and we are planning to go to Sydney Uni Library once it opens on the 5th of January. I’m looking forward to collecting my research and writing notes about the resources.
Till then I shall be attending my other local libraries and looking for more relevant information on my chosen area of topic.
